Fourteeen Whitnash Windmill players ventured through the blustery winds to the impressive new facility at Nottingham for the second round of the EPA’s international qualifying series, the last 32 for men and the last 16 for women. With the fields to be narrowed down to 16 men’s teams and 8 womens Whitnash players achieved an excellent result with all fourteen progressing to the next phase.
In a tight ladies competition top of the pile was Lyn Roberts, who playing with Teresa Bingham from Warwick and Janet Kimpton from Half Crown secured 4th with 3 wins. They were followed in 5th and 6th by two more teams with Whitnash representation as Sam Cunnington and Lin Rendall, playing with Wendy Brittan from Half Crown , placed 5th and all Whitnash team of Chris Rand, Claire Revill and Carol Woodward took 6th, both teams also securing 3 wins from 5 games.
On the men’s side Patrick Robiquet and Jean-Denis Scatena, with Barry Scott of Half Crown came home in 10th place on 3 wins, closely followed by all Whitnash trio of Jeff Rand, Steve Moores and Neil Muddeman in 12th also with 3 wins from 5. Dave Mason and Maurice Rendall, partnered by Garth Fletcher of Half Crown won 2 of their 5 games, but did enough to make the cut in 14th place and Dave Roberts, PLaying with Pete Bingham of Warwick and Dave Kimpton of Half Crown closed out the qualifiers with their 2 wins and 16th place.
The Mens top 16 will be on June 12th with the top 8 of both competitions to be held on June 26th where the winners will become the national representatives at this years championships.
