Terrain Improvements

We are very fortunate at Whitnash to have a dedicated team of volunteers who help to maintain and improve our facilities at Whitnash Petanque Club on an ongoing basis.  In recent months, several improvements and additions have been made and maintenance of our terrain has been ongoing.

A new hardwearing surround has been installed around all edges of our terrain at a cost of over £2,000, for which our hardworking Chairman, Richard Sparkes had obtained a grant, and undertaken a great deal of the installation work himself, along with Brenda, Charlie Caruana and Tony White.  In addition, a new pathway between both terrains has been relaid to improve our commitment to health and safety.

Richard has also built and installed a ‘seatbox’ where our new training equipment is stored, another recent addition to the facilities acquired by the Whitnash Club together with a lockable noticeboard in our Pavilion.  Wooden storage trays have also been made in which to store our many sets of spare boules for new members and guests.

A great deal of work has also been undertaken by David and Sue Sutton with regards to the maintenance of our bench seating around the terrain and David has been active in undertaking other carpentry requirements.    David has been busy replacing the old bolts and repainting all the benches restoring them to their former glory.   Sue has also helped and has also maintained the flower pots around the terrain and kept the weeds to a minimum.

The membership acknowledges the dedication and commitment of the above members, who have given, and continue to give, their time and hard work for the good of the club and our grateful thanks go to them.

In addition to the above , we have a healthy bank balance which helps us maintain the standards of our facility and make it one of the most attractive in the country.

We encourage both social and competitive play, having several social members and many who by choice have taken the sport to a more competitive level.   Our Club nights (Mondays) are fun and friendly, and eight of our members are representing the Heart of England Region at the Inter-Regionals in September so there is a good mix.

There is a friendly and welcoming warmth at Whitnash PC, and new players are always welcome to come along and give it a try. We play all year round, every Monday night, starting at 7.30pm.   Be there by  around 7.15pm if you would like to try your hand.

Whitnash is undoubtedly one of the most progressive and pro-active clubs in the country as demonstrated above, and we hope to encourage newcomers to come along and see for yourselves.  Contact details can be found on our Contacts page.
