Monday Club Night and Friday Sessions
The club runs its main club night on Monday evenings at the Whitnash Sports and Social Club. Play starts at 7.00pm. In general, the aim of club night is to provide a social setting where people can play a game and try out new skills, and competitive petanque is encouraged for those with higher ambitions. Experienced players are on hand to offer advice and point people in the right direction. Play is possible all year round thanks to the floodlighting of the terrain. It is the Club’s intention to provide a petanque facility for social and competitive players alike, and to encourage players of all ages and abilities.
As part of Monday club night we run a league every week which is split into four seasons in a 12 month period (13 games each quarter with your best 8 results counting towards the league table). Partners and opposition are selected at random by everybody playing towards one coche at the same time. The league is intended to be fun, and new players should not feel intimidated. The Club night is intended to be held in a relaxed atmosphere and anybody is welcome from international players to complete novice.
During the warmer months of the year the Club also occasionally meets on Friday evenings, and there is the opportunity to take advantage of coaching sessions with various training equipment recently acquired by the club. .
The Club makes a nominal charge of £1 for every week that you use the facility and this is usually collected at Monday Club Night and no-one pays more than £1 per week whether they play once, twice or more. Junior members are charged 50 pence per week. This helps us to maintain and improve our terrain (boules can usually be borrowed) and of course all are invited to finish the evening off with a drink in the bar of the Clubhouse, and there is free parking on the adjacent car park.
